Visual Aids, Videos, and Social Stories for Kids With Autism Spectrum Disorder to Discuss COVID-19

https://www.smore.com/udqm2-dealing-with-covid-19

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental delays often benefit from using visual schedules, symbolic communication, and using social stories to better understand some of the rules, experiences, and expectations around them. These kids often do poorly with unexpected changes and thrive on routine. The process of suddenly being at home each day instead of at school or with familiar therapy providers is likely to increase distress and emotional/behavioral responses. The link at the top of the page gives an obscene number of visuals, stories, free access to symbols to add to ACC devices, and information for therapeutic and general support ideas for parents to use. Hope this helps to comfort some kiddos (and some parents) out there. Thank you to the University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities for compiling these resources from all around the country.
