Just like all of you, I am sitting at home staring into the freezer and piecing together what dinner is going to look like. Luckily, between my husband and I, we tend to be preparers by nature, so we are not quite creating leftover casseroles (yet). I was thinking about the million news articles I read today and looking for an amazing picture to post for today’s blog entry at the same time. I ran across this one and it clicked with my news coverage for the day. This is Julian Beever, a 3D artist that specializes in sidewalk art. I love illusion and how it makes us think about things as being more than what you “catch” when you take a quick look. Maybe it resonates with me because I work in a field where the kids I spend the day with are so much more than what they look like on the outside. You have to look harder and be willing to shift perception to really do this life justice. One of the articles I was reading today discussed supply chain issues as we all settle in for several more weeks, at least, of staying home and staying safe. Seems there is a shortage on frozen pizza. Sigh. This picture, beyond being an amazing example of illusion, is also a pretty awesome slice of pizza. The combination of these thoughts kind of converged, so there you go. In case you find that your grocery delivery does not have that pizza (or four) that you ordered, hope the below homemade pizza crust recipe helps!
Ingredients-Pizza Crust
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 3/4-1 cup lukewarm water
- 1- 1 1/2 tablespoons quality olive oil to coat the bowl
- Optional: cornmeal for dough dusting
Instructions
- Add all-purpose flour, salt, sugar and instant yeast to a medium sized bowl. Quickly combine the dry mixture with a whisk.
- Next, add lukewarm water to mix and use a whisk to make sure everything is mixed together.
- Do a little kneading and form a ball.
- Take a large bowl and coat with quality olive oil. Add the dough to the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise at room temperature for at least 2 hours but longer is better.
- When ready, roll out the dough and assemble your pizza. Cook to desired doneness
